Real Stories

The articles in "Meet the People" are written by Sarita Daniels, a Lighthouse writer.  "Meet the People" is about real people with real stories at The Lighthouse Church.  It is designed to help the reader identify with the members here at The Lighthouse.

Chris Houston

Inspiration can strike in many ways at any time. A hit song or a blockbuster movie can be inspired by a particular person or by a certain event.  A good example of this would be the hit song “Never Could Have Made It”, which was # 1 on both the R& B and Gospel Charts.  Marvin Sapp was inspired by God through the loss, tragedy and grief in his life. Many times inspiration is life altering.  In 1989, a young college girl’s notebook with the written phrases, “I Love the Lord” and “Jesus Is the Light” with a sun drawn by them, inspired a college football player, by the name of Chris Houston, to take note and think about this great Lord.  That picture and those phrases inspired Chris to start attending The Lighthouse in 1990 and receive God’s Spirit in 1991.

What that young lady wrote and drew on her notebook helped to start a movement in the spirit realm to catapult young Chris into his destiny. His destiny to become a power-packed witness on the football team and a super soul winner on Northeast Louisiana University’s campus; His destiny to help bring to Christ and marry his college sweetheart, Chandra; His destiny to have four children: DeAndre, Chris, Jerrica and Moriah; His destiny to work in the Ouachita Parish School System and be the owner of H Enterprises, a landscaping company; and his destiny to be an ordained minister and preach the word of God, in season and out of season, with fervency and passion.  The words “Mega Success” come to mind when I think about what God has in store for Chris.  I wonder if that young college girl knows what she has done.

Come visit The Lighthouse and get to know Chris and the many others like him.  Let God help you fulfill your destiny in Him!

Monique Rivers

I guess you can say that it was fate that brought Monique Rivers to

The Lighthouse or better yet, Destiny, Monique’s seven-year-old daughter. About a year ago, Monique and Destiny were at a restaurant talking about their church service that Sunday.  Bridgette Brown overheard their conversation and told her how good the church service was at The Lighthouse. Little did Bridgette know that Monique was not being fulfilled spiritually. Monique was seeking the Lord to lead her to the right church for her and her family.  Bridgette invited Monique to church and a friendship started between them. /files/Storage Gallery/monique rivers.JPG

Monique is a wife, mother and business owner. She likes to sing and her passion is working with children. She went through Renewal, Inc.’s entrepreneurship training class at the Holiday Inn in 2005 not knowing that one day, she would be a member of The Lighthouse Church.  Being at The Lighthouse has made a tremendous difference in her life: from marriage to friendship to conducting business.
